In the 1960s the Italian Joe Colombo designed a series of highly successful lamps that became collectibles. For the lamps that he designed for Kartell, he explored especially plastic as a material. The present lamp is constructed of a cylindrical stand of white methacrylat. The lamp shade is built of ebanil plastic that becomes through brushing the look of wood. The light is shining through circular holes in the shade.
Condition:
The lamp is in good condition with slight traces of use. The lamp is fully functional but no guarantee on long-term functionality. It is 16 cm in height and 14 cm in diameter.
Joe Colombo (1930-1971)
The Italian architect and designer Joe Colombo studied at the Milan Accademia Arti di Brera and later architecture at the University of Polytechnic in Milan. He was one of the most famous Italian designers of the 1960s. His designs were exhibited at the MoMA. His favorite materials were synthetic, from which he made functional and useful objects. (tm)
