Description
Changhua six-character marker. The first tou ts'ai enameled porcelain was made during the reign of Cheng Hua. Imperial pieces of this period are very rare and Chinese connisseurs have always counted them among the most precious examples of fine porcelain. The small "chicken" cups represent a kind of porcelain which is unsupassed for subrlety and finesse. The soft harmonious colors which characterize the touts'ai enamels were achieved by painting the outlines of motifs in underglaze blue before applying the enamels. The Chinese call this the technique of "contrasting colors," perhaps because the decoraration is produced by opposing methods - underglaze blue drawing followed by the application of the colored enamels over the glaze. The piece has the reign-mark of ChengHua,six characters in square in underglaze blue on the base.HuangHuaLi wood stand with Black and gilded.Provenance: A British Private collection. dragon, phoenixes Lacquer box diam 8.1cm, high3.9cm.大明成化斗彩鸡缸杯,胎溥如蝉翼.十分名贵.高3.9厘米直径8.1厘米配有黑漆描金龙凤纹双层漆器盒, 黄花梨木座,和北京国家文物进出境证书
