Description
We are pleased to offer this excellent vintage fenton Art Glass French Opalescent double crimped 4.5" vase in the #203-4.5 / Ware Number 1454-FO form. This lovely 1948-1953 mold blown vase is part of the very first Opalescent Coin Dot line introduced by Fenton in 1947, and measures 5.5 x 5.5 x 4.5" tall, weighing 1# 8 oz. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx. The origin of the Fenton Art Glass Opalescent Coin Dot pattern dates to 1947, a year in which Fenton introduced its newest style in French, Blue & Cranberry Opalescent colors. The pattern was taken from an old Victorian Polka Dot pattern, and differs from the earlier Fenton Dot Optic pattern (ca. 1908), in that the Coin Dot shows base glass color dots, surrounded by the opalescent glass top to bottom. The Dot Optic pattern is the inverse, with bright Opalescent glass as the dots, surrounded by the base glass color. Original Coin Dot production continued until July 1961, with short lived colors such as the highly collectible Honeysuckle (1948 – 1949), and Lime Opalescent (1952 – 1955), with the final Coin Dot pattern being Topaz Opalescent (1959 – 1961), which was restricted from being made until that time, as the formula was developed with Uranium Oxide, a casualty of the WW II Hazardous Materials Act, not lifted until the end of the 1950s.Condition ReportExcellent condition - 1 small inside mold anomaly - see photos
