Description
Published 1982-1989 AD. A set of Richard Hattatt's four hardback books on Roman and other brooches, drawn from his own collection, comprising: Ancient and Romano-British Brooches, Sherborne, 1982; Iron Age and Roman Brooches, Oxford, 1985; Brooches of Antiquity, Oxford, 1987; Ancient Brooches and Other Artefacts, Oxford, 1989; all with dust-jackets. 4.4 kg total, each 19.5 x 25cm (7 3/4 x 9 3/4"). From an old Hampshire collection. Hattatt was a collector of brooches ranging in date from the Bronze Age to the Middle Ages, but concentrating on British Iron Age and Roman types. In these four volumes, he brought together descriptions and line-drawings of over 2000 of the more important pieces in his collection with a colourful and erudite discussion of the types, distribution, chronology, etc. The four works together form the classic, definitive guide to the subject. These are the original hardback versions, not the card-cover reprints. TimeLine Auctions Ltd arranges printed catalogue rostrum Auctions, eAuctions and Timed Auctions where we offer antiquities, ancient artefacts / artifacts, antiques, collectibles, coins, medals and books for public sale.
