Description
A group of 5 painted cartonnage depictions of sacred objects, Tibet, 17th Century or earlier, each with lengthy verso. These came from an old-time Orientalist and were examined by Dr. P. Pal of LACMA (La County Museum of Art) about 35 years ago who declared he had not seen their likes before. However, he suggested a 17th Century date or earlier and resemble in many ways the cloth paintings. Each about 8 in (20 cm) square. Rare and quite beautiful! Ex Venerable West S.F. Valley Collection.(Please ask for photo of the backside of the 5th object, we can only load 10 photos here)
