Description
Five embroidered ladies' informal robes, Chinese, late 19th century, comprising a padded navy blue satin winter example, the others of silk damask with embroidered sleeve bands or trim (5)
Condition
• Royal blue satin robe – faint brown stains down front right panel, edges of sleeve bands are slightly frayed, soiling to rear neck band
• Purple damask – ivory braid has a grey/soiled appearance, faded/discoloured over shoulders, later blue nylon fastening loops added, small bleach mark on top of left sleeve, frayed edge to neck, small faint stains to front chest area, perspiration stains at underarms
• Apricot robe – badly split and faded over shoulders, soiling and wear along crease lines on sleeves bands, faint damp speckles in rear of robe but not immediately noticeable
• Padded navy satin robe – sleeve bands are soiled and split at edges, blue and white embroidered bands are worn and frayed on edges generally, slightly soiled appearance generally. Sweat stains to plain blue silk lining at neck and shoulder area
• Short blue robe – sleeve bands are badly stained, soiling and discolouration to green satin neck band, lining is stained and repaired to rear front neck band, blue damask areas are generally good
