Description
A late 18th-early 19th century French embroidery on silk. Embroidery and painting on silk depicts a memorial scene with two figures standing before a tomb. Text, only partially legible, is written below the image in French, "C'est sous ce montre que son Corps repose mais c'est dans le...Dieu que son ame repose". In a gilt wood and gesso frame with Eglomise glass. Condition commensurate with age. Wear/discoloration/tearing to the silk. Some losses to the gilt frame. Embroidery only measures 17 1/2 x 13 1/2" high, 24 1/2 x 20 1/2" overall. ESTIMATE $400-600
