An Olmec Standing Figure Las Bocas type, Mexico, c. 1200-900 BC Solid earthenware with burnished ivory-colored slip, traces of red pigment. The full-bodied woman depicted in a stance of command or authority, arms held straight down to hips, palms forward, feet apart. Her jaw is lowered, and her lips slightly parted as though vocalizing. Her hair is swept up into a bun on the top of her forehead. Her eye orbits are blank, a common feature on Los Bocas type figures. A very expressive and lifelike Olmec figure.
