Description
An Olmec Jade Pendant Gulf Coast, Mexico, c. 1200-600 BC Mottled blue-green jade, veined, with a high polish. Depicts a standing figure with wide, protruding hips and abdomen, arms cut away with a tiny hole on the side. Large rectangular head with two tiny drilled holes at mouth, squinched eyes, giving the face a crying or howling expression. Pierced through neck for suspension. In excellent condition, left leg with an ancient chip to the inside corner; however, a gold loop has been glued or drilled onto the top of the head, apparently permanent. With a gold chain.
