Description
FABERGE, A LARGE AND IMPORTANT JEWELLED OBSIDIAN STUDY OF A DUSTBATHING SPARROW, ST PETERSBURG, CIRCA 1900 humoristically carved in the Japanese taste to depict a seated dustbathing sparrow, modelled after an ebony netsuke by Horaku, set to the eyes with circular cabochon rubies, feet carved on the underside, apparently unsigned, within its original Faberge wooden case. Length 7.5cm (3 inches). Provenance - The property of Emily Yznaga del Valle (1859-1944), sister of the Duchess of Manchester. - With Wartski - Private UK collection - Acquired by the present owner from Andre Ruzhnikov, September 2022.
