Grouping of Civil War photos and memorabilia, most related to soldier Henry Dietrich (Dietrick). This includes: 2 CDV's of a fully armed Henry Dietrich in uniform (both with pen & ink signatures), 2 CDV's of Dietrich after the Civil War (both with pen and ink signatures and dated 1866), CDV photo of husband wife and baby - signed on reverse "Henry Dietrich and first wife", a CDV of George Dietrick, a small notebook titled "Compliments of Anthony's Photographic Bulletin / E &HT Anthony & Co." (NY) with pen and ink note attached indicating "Henry Dietrick was an employee of this firm 55 years", a blue and gold insignia of the 39th N.Y. Infantry in which Dietrich had enlisted, a CDV of Col. D'Utassy the organizer of the Garibaldi Guard (1862 photo by M.P. Brady), 3 large GAR photos of soldiers and monuments, and 10 engravings and 7 photos of Dietrich, most in good condition. The GAR photos include: GAR members and family standing next to monument - pencil inscription on border reads "Henry Dietrick reading dedication of monument at Gettysburg 1893" ; GAR members standing & sitting in front of monument (one appears to be Henry Dietrick), pencil signed on border that reads "Gettysburg 1893" - stamped on reverse by photographer "James H. Hare 298 Driggs Ave. Brooklyn E.D." - James Hare - English, move to Brooklyn NY in 1889, and became a technical adviser for E.& H.T. Anthony & Co photographers - later became a freelance photographer in Brooklyn - Henry Dietrick was also employed by Anthony photographers after the Civil War; and 6 GAR soldiers standing in front of a Gettysburg Civil War monument that reads "66th New York Infantry, 3rd Brigade, 1st Division, 2nd Corp. July 2, 1863. 6 P.M. / CASUALTIES 5 Killed, 29 Wounded, 10 Missing - The monument was dedicated in 1889 by the State of New York and stands 13? 9? tall - on its front above the base is an inset circular bronze tablet of the Seal of the State of New York - at the top of the front and rear is a bronze trefoil symbol of the Second Corps. Note there are at least 3 Henry Dietrich's that served during the Civil War, one in Pennsylvania and two in NY. The information provided here indicates that he was a member of the 39th NY Infantry, probably the Garbaldi Guard in which there were 3 companies of German descent soldiers. The following information from the New York State Military Museum and Veterans Research Center: The 39th Regiment, or “Garibaldi Guard,” organized in New York City under Colonel Frederick George D’Utassy and mustered into service for three years at Washington D.C. on June 6, 1861. The companies consisted of Germans, Hungarians, Swiss, Italians, Frenchman, Spaniards, and Portuguese."
