Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Nayarit, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A lovely ensemble of 4 pottery jars: 1 stone-burnished buffware, 1 redware with a corseted midsection, and 2 adorned with beige-on-red stripes giving each the appearance of a squash. The largest is additionally embellished by liberal remains of white negative resist decoration. Size of largest: 5.6" Diameter x 4.2" H (14.2 cm x 10.7 cm)
Provenance: private Reinsmoen collection, Clear Lake, Iowa, USA, acquired through descent from Robert Anderson, acquired prior to 2000
