Description
Latin America, Mexico, Nayarit, Cora culture, ca. mid-20th century CE. A large festival mask made from papier mache, goat hair, and sisal fiber, in the form of a bull / demon. A tag states this was from Nayarit and used for the La Judea by the Cora people, a traditional cultural and religious event that takes place during Holy Week (Semana Santa) in some parts of Mexico. Scenes from the Passion of Christ are reenacted using costumes and music, blending elements of Catholicism with indigenous beliefs. Size: 17" L x 17" W (43.2 cm x 43.2 cm)
