Civil War US Army M1840 Medical Service Staff Sword. Double edged, straight blade. Double acid etched "United States Medical Staff", floral and patriotic patterns. Maker marked by Ames Chicopee Mass. Decorated, gilded brass hilt with "MS" in relief on the rain guard. Decorated brass scabbard with leather hanger remnants.
