Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Chihuahua region, Casas Grandes (Paquime) culture, ca. 1200 to 1450 CE. An adorable, spherical jar in the form of a turtle with the head and front feet protruding from one side and the tail and back feet from the other, all adorned in black on red checkered, linear, and geometric designs. Size: 8.5" L x 9.25" W x 6.5" H (21.6 cm x 23.5 cm x 16.5 cm)

Stable hairline pressure fissure extending from rim, as well as chipping to base. Surface wear and weathering throughout, all commensurate with age. Otherwise, intact and excellent with liberal remains of pigment. Nice mineral deposits and earthen encrustations to surface.
