Description
Alexandre Yevgenievich Yakovlev, Russian, 1887 to 1938, a black chalk and red sanguine on paper drawing depicting a portrait of an Afghan man. Signed in Latin and dated 1934 lower left. Matted and framed. Yakovlev, also known as Jacovleff, was a prominent Russian neo-classicist painter, draftsman, designer, and etcher. Trained at the Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg under Dmitry Kardovsky, he gained recognition for his contributions to national and international exhibitions. Between 1931 and 1932, he traveled through Syria, Iran, Afghanistan, Mongolia and China, and created a number of orientalist paintings. Portrait Drawings And Russian Art Collectibles.
