Middle-Late Pleistocene Period, circa 40,000-25,000 years B.P. From the left side of Panthera spelaea lower jaw, displaying a large canine and three other teeth. 311 grams, 19.5 cm (7 3/4 in.).
From the private collection of a London gentleman formed since 2003.
Panthera spelaea is also known as the steppe lion or cave lion, became extinct about 13,000 years ago. Based on contemporary cave drawings, this prominent member of the mammoth steppe fauna, probably only had a very small mane.
