Beatrix (Beatrice) Sherman, American, 1894-1975, Ten full length Artists and Writers silhouettes, includes Paul Dougherty, N.A.(Artist), Alexandra Harriet Colebrooke, nee Paget (Artist), Jack Rusk, Carroll Mc Comas(Stage/Film Actress), Hazel Lee(Artist), Mrs. Rex Beach(Wife of Writer Rex Beach), Arthur Bennett (British Writer), Beatrice Stevenson Stanoyevich (Author, married to Milivoy Stoyan Stanoyevich), Charles Whitman (Scholar of early English verse), possibly Cecil Louis Troughton Smith - Cecil Scott Forester, signed for "C.S, Scott (p.p.)" most autographed, studio stamped, stamped, verso artist inscribed. Biography: Beatrix Sherman styled herself after 19th C. French silhouette artist Auguste Edouart. Sherman, like Edouart, kept books with an extra copy of each sitter's silhouette enabling her to create an extensive personal archive that included both the silhouettes and the sitter's (sic.) autographs. Sherman traveled extensively, established a permanent studio in Manhattan throughout the 1950’s. She attended art classes at The Art Students League, eventually becoming a lifetime member. From an early age, she had begun copyrighting silhouettes of several of the famous people she cut. Sherman’s subjects include all the U.S. Presidents, as well as other politicians, military leaders, writers, royalty, prominent businessmen and women, socialites, athletes, artists, theatre, film actors, producers and directors.
