Description
This is a rare view of the fortified city of Amsterdam as it was in 1544. The city is shown with its many canals, but before the circular canals, and surrendered by farmland. There is a plethora of ships in the foreground. Of special note are the gallows in the lower right, which are mostly occupied. The index on the right identified 41 points of interest. The city crest is held by a figure in the upper right. This view appeared in Historische Beschryvinge van de Reformatie der Stadt Amsterdam... by Long and was published by Septeren. He created this view based on the 1544 work by C Anthonisz (aka Anthonissen).
