Item Details
Description
For your consideration are nine hand-tinted photos of Yosemite Valley in Yosemite National Park taken by William Henry Jackson of the Detroit Publishing Company circa 1898. The photos were taken by William Henry Jackson (1843-1942), an American photographer, Civil War veteran, painter, and an explorer famous for his images of the American West. He was a great-great nephew of Samuel Wilson, the progenitor of America's national symbol Uncle Sam. The nine photographs have been hand-tinted showing vivid colors of green, blue, reds and oranges. Most all of the photos have been marked on the bottom in gold lettering showing an inventory number and a title and/or location. Some of the locations included are "South Dome, Yosemite Valley" and "Devils Tower Wyoming". There appear to be duplicate photos but show slightly different framing. The photos are in good condition overall with little to no wear present on any. The photos measure 7 1/16" L x 3 9/16" W.
