Description
Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Moche, ca. 500 to 800 CE. An attractive bi-chrome terracotta amphibian effigy vessel depicting an endearing sitting toad or frog with a large conical spout emerging from his back - all skillfully embellished with low to high relief details. This lively fellow presents an expressive visage featuring a wide alluring smile, bulging eyes, and a large raised nose with several hallucinogenic seed pods bulging from the sides. A grouping of 5 conical vegetables coalesce near the butt end. Size: 8.75" L x 6.25" W x 7.625" H (22.2 cm x 15.9 cm x 19.4 cm)
