Description
Pre-Columbian, North Coast of Peru, Moche, ca. 300 to 700 CE. A rare example of a hand-carved wooden snuff tube bearing the stylized likeness of a standing lord or deity as the midsection and upper rows of pyramid motifs. The drug implement is decorated with four bands of silver-gold alloy fitted with petite pins, and the narrow interior cavity runs evenly throughout its length. Snuff tubes like this were only used by royalty or individuals of great esteem. Size: 13.5" L x 1.25" W (34.3 cm x 3.2 cm); 14.5" H (36.8 cm) on included custom stand.

Condition
Tears to all of the gold panels - with stable fissures and some small losses along the break lines. Wood has stable pressure fissures, and is otherwise intact with a dark patina. Overall great preservation.
