The intended subject of the print is evident in its later, finished state: the Jewish queen Esther, who is about to approach King Ahasuerus to expose Haman's intent to murder the Jews.; Amand-Durand: The pioneer in France of making and publishing photogravure (héliogravure) reproductions of engravings and etchings. His main series of facsimiles of old master prints began in 1869, usually published in portfolios with accompanying text by G.Duplessis. His prints usually have a stamp in red on the verso.
