Exceptionally rare commemorative saber associated with the American Revolution, France, 1799-1800. This saber was commissioned by French volunteers who fought in the American Revolution for President George Washington. The second similar saber, the French Government presented to President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1933, now it is located in the US President's residence in White House. https://www.whitehousehistory.org/photos/influences-and-images-presentation-saber . The curved steel blade is decorated with etching with traces of blue and gilding and bears the inscription Klingenthal. The hilt is made of bronze and has a bas-relief image of an eagle with the letter "W" underneath it; the pommel is made in the shape of an eagle head. The handle is made of mother-of-pearl. The brass scabbard is decorated with chased plates depicting ancient gods. A very rare item related to American history.
