Any newspaper from Abraham Lincoln's assassination is rare. It truly was the first time in America's history that people understood the gravity of what just happened and the lucky ones actually saved the newspaper when they first heard about it. Why a newspaper you ask? There was no TV, there was no radio and there were no movie theaters so the only way the country knew about what happened was through the newspapers.The good news about newspapers from this time period Is that they were printed on what is called rag paper which is much more durable and last a lot longer and better condition. There is one issue on the back page where there was some paper that was ripped out but I promise you it does not affect in any way the paper if it were framed which I highly recommend.What makes this even rarer is the date. Very few papers exist from the date that Lincoln actually died and believe it or not many of them did not know about the events and never even printed anything about the events. You can even see from this paper that it was already typeset and ready to go to print so the story never even made the front page. What they did do was add the memorial borders around all the columns which signified someone of great importance passed away.
