Description
Son of William I, he distinguished himself as commander of the Third Army during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-71. He was hostile to Bismarck's authoritarian policies, which earned him a reputation as a liberal. He married Princess Victoria of the United Kingdom (1840 - 1901), daughter of the Queen of England. He died of laryngeal cancer after only 99 days on the throne. Autograph letter signed "Friedrich Wilhelm"; written in German. January 25, 1875, 2 pp. in-8¡, papler struck in relief with a crowned eagle. Beautiful letter with intimate and familiar content relating to the organization of a family celebration in Bellevue.Very rare piece.
