Jon D. Longaker was a professor of art history at Randolph-Macon College, Ashland. Longaker taught at Randolph-Macon College from 1953-91 and was chairman of the art department from 1975 to 1985. During his tenure he also served as art and drama critic for the Richmond Times-Dispatch, a post he held for 30 years.
Longaker received his bachelor's degree from the University of Pennsylvania and completed his graduate study at Columbia University. During his career he was awarded five Fine Arts Fellowships, including two from the Melon Foundation and one from the National Endowment for the Arts.
He has been a guest lecturer at the National Gallery of Art and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. He has also served on the boards of the Virginia State Arts Commission, the Virginia Commission of the Arts and Humanities and on the Virginia Museum's Committee on Fellowships.
