Mixed Media Sculpture by Stephen De Staebler (American, 1933-2011). This sculpture presents an ancient/classical aesthetic, resembling a sectioned, totem-like angular column with suggestions of a standing human skeletal form. The entire piece is composed of pigmented clay patina in shades of pink, grey, brown, and white. It measures approximately 99" x 15" x 15". The signature and date are incised on the lower right on the front, marked as "De Staebler [date illegible, appears as 1976]". This totem is similar to the artist's works featured in Matter and Spirit: Stephen De Staebler by Timothy Burgard as pictured (book not included). This item originates from the estate of John A. Williams, a distinguished philanthropist and renowned collector. Mr. Williams and his partner Dewitt Hart were influential members of San Francisco's art society and were celebrated for their discerning taste in modern, ethnographic, and fine art. Over the years, they hosted numerous exhibitions in their home, showcasing their prestigious collection to appreciative audiences. All proceeds of items from this estate benefit the Hart Williams Rainbow Fund, a nonprofit working with the LGBTQIA+ community in the San Francisco Bay Area.
