Mit mehreren Unterbrechungen wird es seit 1906 jährlich ausgetragen. Der Startpunkt des Rennens 1935 war Warschau (Polen), Gewinner war die polnische Besatzung, Zbigniew Burzynski (Zbigniew Burzynski) und Wladyslaw Wysocki (Wladyslaw Wysocki), mit dem Ballon SP-AMY Polonia II. Sie blieben fast 58 Stunden in der Luft und steuerten ihren Ballon 1.650 Kilometer von Warschau nach Tishkino bei Stalingrad (heutiges Wolgograd). Sie brachen dabei die Weltrekorde in Bezug auf Länge und Zeit. Die Bilder zeigen den Start des Siegers, SP-AMY Polonia II, und der US Navy, dem Gewinner des Pokals von 1932.
