Description
Ming Dynasty, finely cast bronze gilded statue of Marpa sitting[Specifications] Height 29cm, length 20cm, width 16cm, weight 6.65kg[Details]Marpa is the founder of the Kagyu sect of Tibetan Buddhism. He went to India three times and Nepal four times. He is a famous translation master in Tibetan history. The Kagyu sect is one of the four major sects of Tibetan Buddhism. It was founded in the 11th century by the translator Marpa and his disciple Milarepa. Its main doctrines come from the visualization system of the great master Dilopa. The Kagyu sect has developed many branches in the process of inheritance, generally known as the "four major traditions and eight minor traditions". It is the sect with the most branches in Tibetan Buddhism. This statue of Marpa wears a monk's hat, has a high and broad forehead, a square face, deep eyes and a high nose, and is calm and resolute. He wears a cross-collared Tibetan robe, a silk ribbon tied around his waist, and a monk's cloak. He sits upright, with his hands on his knees, making the mudra of touching the ground, and sitting cross-legged on a thick cushion. The folds of the clothes are smooth, and the robes and card mats are engraved with exquisite plum blossom patterns. The whole image is delicately portrayed, vivid and realistic, and fully expresses the image of Master Marpa.
