Description
American World War I propaganda poster, 10 x 15 in., depicting a symbolic, oversized Red Cross nurse in flowing robes, cradling a wounded soldier on a stretcher in her arms, captioned: ‘The Greatest Mother in the World’. Beneath the caption, set between two Red Crosses is: ‘She’s warming thousands, feeding thousands, healing thousands from her store; the greatest mother in the world – the Red Cross’. This poster was released to supplement ‘the New York Sunday World for the benefit of the Second Red Cross War Fund’. The printed name of the artist ‘A.E. Foringer’ at the right, with the printing line for ‘American Lithographic Co., N.Y.’ at the bottom margin. Unfortunate mounting remnants at the corners, not intruding on the image, else very good. SOLD WITH: a poster board, 9 x 11 in., featuring a large American flag at the center, with text above and below, reading: ‘Your country needs you – Enlist now in the Bronx’. The red, white, and blue border has broken off in places, obstructing the printing line at the bottom right. Two pieces.
