Description
A nice group of relics regarding the tragic bombing of Buckingham Palace on Sept. 13, 1940, collected by J. J. Maddison, a member of the Observer Corps. The group includes a large piece of shrapnel measuring 4 x 2 in., mounted to a wooden base with a brass plaque reading: ‘German bomb splinter from the raid on Buckingham Palace September 13th, 1940’. Needs to be re-affixed to base. WITH: the framed certificate of Maddison as Observer, signed Dec. 16, 1939, presented along with a vintage photo, his Defence medal, ribbon, and Observer’s badge in a wood frame. Finally, the lot includes a copy of a newsprint image of the King and Queen of England standing among the rubble of the Palace, matted and framed. Very good.
