Description
FRITZ BRAND (1889-1967) Artillery general in the Oberkommando des Heeres, he led the 78. Infanterie-Division in France and in Operation Barbarossa until late September, 1941. Offered here is General Brand’s Order of the Crown of Romania with Swords, 1938 Type 2 Commander’s version. The decoration features a red and white enameled, eight-pointed Maltese Cross, the center depicting the initials of King Carol I, and four crowns between the cross arms with Swords. The suspension ring turns into the Imperial Crown, slightly patinated. Also present is the blue and gold neck ribbon. Minute area of enamel loss at the bottom right, else fine. SOLD WITH: original award document naming Brand, dated March 26, 1942, in a 6.5 x 8.5 in. frame. This award, originally only for civilians until 1938, was limited to only 250 commander recipients. Overall fine.
