Description
An especially rare Imperial Japanese Marine landing forces helmet, Type 92, with original cover. Leather headband and fingers within are in very good condition, while the canvas strap lacks buckle. The headband bears two Japanese characters that appear to be hand-penned, one of which reads ‘Eternal’. The helmet is also marked ‘2051’ in white indelible pencil at the bottom. It is accompanied by the original oilcloth cover, with appropriate Japanese manufacturing stamp imprinted within and embroidered Imperial Japanese Navy anchor at the front. It tightens by way of a drawstring, which is intact. Embroidered insignia is quite mothed, otherwise the helmet exhibits just a bit of paint loss and is in overall very good condition. The Special Japanese Naval Landing Forces (SNLF) were the marine troops and part of the IJN Land Forces. They saw extensive service in the Second Sino-Japanese War and the Pacific Theater of World War II, fighting against the U.S. Marine Corps at Guadalcanal, Palau, and Iwo Jima.
