An original pamphlet titled ‘Jews in America’, written and published by TIME, Inc., 4.5 x 8.5 in., 12pp., 1936. The cover asks well-worn anti-Semitic questions such as ‘Do the Jews control industry in America?’, and while the contents within attempt to disprove the claim with statements such as ‘…there is no basis whatever for the suggestions that Jews monopolize U.S. business…There is no Jewish control in the management or ownership of either transport or manufacture in the aviation industry…Jews do not dominate the American scene…’. However, there is still plenty of anti-Semitic verbiage to go around: ‘…Jews…monopolize certain minor provinces…[with] their curious industrial distribution, their tendency to crowd together in particular squares of the checkerboard…Can this universal stranger be absorbed in the country which has absorbed every other European stock?...’. The pamphlet ends by stating Yes, the Jews can be assimilated…but only if the Jews themselves wish it by: ‘…the quieting of Jewish apprehensiveness and the consequent elimination of the aggressive and occasional provocative Jewish defensive measures…’.
