Item Details
Description
Civil War "easel" style memorial for Frederick Jacobs, Co. K, 63rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry. This chromolithograph memorial was copyrighted by J.D. Carnahan in 1891 and published by the Easel Monument Association Chicago, Illinois. It was presented to Jacobs by his family on June 15, 1896. The memorial itself measures 24" x 32.5" and is housed in its original vintage 32" x 39.5" frame. Two eye hook picture hangers are already attached making this piece ready to hang. The Easel Monument was the creation of the G.A.R. - the Grand Army of the Republic. The Easel Monument lithograph was sold to raise money to build a national Civil War Veterans' monument identical to the monument pictured in the lithograph. ultimately the monument was never built. This style memorial lithograph was made with a blank center section so that the soldier's service history could be added. According to the information noted on the memorial, Jacobs enlisted at Huron, Ohio on 8/22/1862. He re-enlisted at Prospect, Tennessee as a veteran in same company and regiment. The 63rd OVI served in Veach's Division of the 16th Army Corps. The regiment was engaged at Iuka and Corinth, Mississippi. In the Atlanta Campaign & Sherman's March to the Sea, the 16th was engaged at Resaca, Dallas, Kennesaw Mountain, Pine Mt, Decatur, Atlanta, Jonesboro, Siege of Savannah, Pocotaligo, South Carolina, Rivers Bridge, S.C. and Bentonville, North Carolina. He was wounded by a minie ball at Corinth Mississippi, treated in hospital at Oxford, MS, and transferred to hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. He was honorably discharged at Louisville, Kentucky on July 8, 1865. In-house shipping is available.
