Description
North America, Southern United States, Central Florida, Withlacoochee River, Oligocene, ca. 38 million years ago. This is a partial geode of fully agatized fossil coral that has been exposed to the river and naturally polished during such exposure, prior to being discovered. The coral formed surreal burnt orange and rich amber colored agate with botryoidal structures that have a varying degree of luster from the water running over the surface. One can even visualize a grumpy face with a wide mouth opening. While most agatized coral specimens are rather small in comparison, this is a large example, boasting extraordinary visual and tactile allure, featuring captivating inner structures and coloration. Agatized coral is usually cut up and used in custom jewelry pieces. As a complete crystal specimen, it is worth even more in its natural state. Size: 9.75" L x 7" W (24.8 cm x 17.8 cm)
