The uniform of a Japanese Rear Admiral in World War IIVisor cap of dark blue wool cloth with cap band of black cap band, the obverse featuring a gold embroidered emblem with applied anchor of non-ferrous metal (seam loose at top), black chinstrap with anchor buttons, black patent leather peak, purple silk lining, black sweatband of synthetic leather. Tunic of dark blue cloth trimmed with black braid, the stand-up collar with two gilt collar patches applied with a cast brass blossom, yellow silk aiguillette, medal ribbon bar, two side and two interior chest pockets, lining of dark green fabric, white sleeve lining, "Yamada Tokyo" tailor label surmounting embroidered Japanese characters. Trousers with black lacquered buttons and olive cotton lining. Partially slightly damaged, traces of age.Given its age, this used uniform is in good condition. It belonged to Rear Admiral Hiroshi Matsuhara from Nagasaki, who held the rank of a lieutenant when he commanded the 21st Minesweeper Flotilla in 1938. In 1945, he was the commander of the 3rd Kamikaze Group based in Manila. He commanded mostly aircraft to attack US Navy ships in Tacloban and the Battle of Leyte Gulf.The present uniform is not a usual admiral's uniform as it is made of a lighter material and the aiguillette was woven of fine silk instead of metal thread. This was a special version for tropical regions. Very rare uniform of a Japanese admiral.Condition: II
