Piranesi, Giovanni Battista (Italian, 1720-1778), Veduta del Pantheon d'Agrippa, oggi Chiesa di S. Maria ad Martyres [View of the Pantheon], mid to late 18th century, etching, impression 18.75 x 27.25 inches, matted and framed 29.5 x 37.25 inches. A single plate from Vedute di Roma [Views of Rome], Piranesi's famous work, first printed in the late 1740s, showing Roman buildings, ruins and monuments, primarily marketed to European visitors on the Grand Tour. Provenance: from the collection of a retired librarian of art and architecture at Columbia University.
Condition
