America.- Binns (John) Declaration of Independence, facsimile broadside, engraved ornamental border incorporating the seals of the 13 original states, medallion portraits of Washington, Jefferson and Hancock, laid onto linen support, old folds with associated losses, heavy browning and discolouration to old varnish, rough edges with nicks, tears and losses, c.900 x 660 mm, [Philadelphia], John Binns, 1819.*** Rare.In 1816, the publisher John Binns was the first to announce plans to publish a decorative broadside of the Declaration of Independence. He proposed to sell copies for $10. Other publishers jumped on the bandwagon and rushed out decorative, cheaper broadsides of the Declaration before Binns finally managed to publish his in 1819.
