Description
A creamware mug, early 19th century
Printed in black and hand-coloured with a titled portrait of Nelson surrounded by Union flags and naval trophies, flanked by the figures of Britannia and Jack Tar, above the dedication 'Born Septr 26th 1758, Died 21st Octr 1805', 14.3cm high
Footnotes:
The date of the Battle of Trafalgar was instantly cemented into the national memory as the moment of Nelson's great victory but also his death. The date of Nelson's birth was less well-known, the print incorrectly showing it as the 26th and not 29th September.

Condition
In good condition, save for some very minor and typical small flakes to the black enamel line rim. There are some scratches and a small glaze flake to the handle. Some minor staining around the turned foot and underside of the mug also of no significance.
