An English slipware pot, dated 1799
Of generous size, the twin handles with thumb indentations at the lower terminals, the red body trailed in cream slip on both sides with the inscription 'Success to the British Neavy [sic], God Save the King, H M L 1799', framed by trailed designs and simple dashed borders, 22.2cm high

A jug dated 1803 with very similar slip trailed motifs, probably from the same workshop as the present lot, is illustrated by David Barker and Steve Crompton, Slipware in the Collection of the Potteries Museum & Art Gallery (2007), p.74, acc. no. 2766.
