Description
This map provides detailed coverage of Southern India, including the Maldives and Sri Lanka, with a focus on ocean currents. It also features India's Andaman and Nicobar islands, as well as the Lakshadweep islands. Created by R. Bonne and Raynal around 1775-1780, the map is sourced from 'Histoire Philosophique et Politique des Etablissemens', an influential work from the Age of Enlightenment with contributions from Diderot. Due to the controversial nature of the questions and issues addressed in the work, such as religion, commerce, slavery, and contemporary politics and society, its publication was banned in France, leading to its publication in Geneva, Switzerland. The map is copperplate engraved and comes with guaranteed authenticity. It is in overall very good condition, measuring 14 1/2" x 9 1/2".
