Description
Sarah Guwaine Wordon's (?) Pictorial Needlework Sampler, Possibly New Hampshire, 1825-35. Worked in silk threads on linen with a fenced four story building flanked by outbuildings, beneath seven rows of the alphabet above the verse "Jesus permit thy Gracious name to stand As the first effort of an/ infant hand/ And while her fingers oer this canvass move engage/ her tender heart to seek thy love With thy dear children let her/ share a part And write thy name thyself upon her heart," over a row of small white flowers and "Wrought by Sarah GU (?) Wordon (?) aged (?), the whole surrounded by a green leafy vine bearing large white blossoms tied with a bow at the bottom; housed in a lemon gold frame. Frame: 22.625 in., W: 19.875 in., D: 1.25 in. Provenance: The Dingman Collection, Hampton, New Hampshire.
