A Universal Microscope, Signed Martin, London, ca. 1850's,
On embossed leather liner over a rosewood cylinder which fits into a shagreen covered tube. Microscope has a double eye lens and field lens mounted in a draw tube. Brass eye piece has dust slide, with brass pillar, mirror, slide stage with two objectives. In a fitted mahogany box/stand.

This instrument closely resembles Martin's first two universal instruments. However, it has the Between Lens and so this instrument may be the missing third universal.
The 4th all brass instrument of 1759 is thought by Clay and Court to start the use of Between Lens. However, this instrument may represent an even earlier use of this improvement.
