Large Portraits of John and Jessie Colles (New York, 19th century) With elaborate Rococo gilt composition frames. According to family tradition, these paintings depict John Colles and his wife Jessie (Vanderoef) of New York. John was purportedly an engineer who worked on the Erie Canal. Oil on canvas. Portrait: 32 1/2 x 27 1/2 in. (82.6 x 69.9 cm.), Frame: 40 x 34 1/2 in. (101.6 x 87.6 cm.)
Condition
Both canvases mounted to board. One frame with fragile composition work, including many loose pieces stored separately. Condition reports are available upon request.
