Description
Well-executed oil on board, a portrait in uniform of Army Lt. Col. John G. Leefe, 4.25 x 5.75 in., set into a brass frame with filigree edges and an eagle and two flags at top. JOHN G. LEEFE (1838-1903) was a career army veteran with forty years of service, including during the Civil War, Indian Wars, in Puerto Rico and in the Philippines. He fought with the 162nd New York during the Civil War, fighting at Fisher's Hill, Port Hudson, Opequan, and Cedar Creek. The portrait portrays Leefe in uniform, ca. 1890. A few trivial scratches, else very good.
