Description
Jason Scull (Texas, b. 1958), "Agua Dulce", 1998, bronze sculpture on wooden base, ed. 8/18
height 23 in. x width 20 in. x depth 10 in.
Provenance: A San Marcos, Texas collection
Born into a family that has been ranching in Texas since the 1830s, Jason Scull always intended to continue working the family ranch even though he had dabbled in art all his life. Then one day in 1987 he visited the Cowboy Artists of America Museum in Kerrville, Texas. That same day he signed up for a sculpture workshop taught by some of the cowboy artists. Then in 2012, he became an elected member of the Cowboy Artists of America. His background knowledge of ranching informs his sculptures and imbues them with vitality and realistic immediacy.
