John Speede (English Cartographer, 1552-29) "The Turkish Empire", H 15.7" W 21" | Antique map of what is now Turkey, the east end of the Mediterranean and the Red Sea. Two-sided frame reveals the description on the verso. Created in 1626. Fold in center where removed from binding of the "Prospect of the Most Famous Parts of the World" printed in the 17th. c. Hand colored. Around the border are illustrations of prominent cities and peoples of the region: Grecian, Egyptian, Assyrian, Arabian and Persian. Men on left, women on right. from the Estate of William and Marlene Thomas of Ann Arbor, Mi.
