A Roman intaglio depicting a soldier holding a dead body. The intaglio is set in a high carat (21 ct), possibly later gold ring; round hoop decorated with gold pellets, filigree and “volutes”; bezel surrounded by golden pearls. This piece has undergone X-ray fluorescence analysis to confirm the metallurgical content suggesting its ancient origin and lack of modern trace elements.
